    Engagement

    Engagement refers to being involved or participating in an activity, project, or enterprise.

    Motivation

    Motivation is the desire and willingness to act. It initiates and sustains behaviours oriented to achieving a goal.

    Self-efficacy

    Self-efficacy refers to a person’s belief that he or she has the capacity to execute the behaviours necessary to produce specific performance attainments.

    Student Engagement

    Student engagement refers to being involved in the social life of the school; valuing schooling outcomes; striving to meet the formal requirements for school success; and making an emotional and psychological investment in learning.

    Student Interests

    Student interests can be personal or situational. A personal interest is an enduring trait of a person; a situational interest arises when one encounters new opportunities in a particular learning situation.

    Values Schooling Outcomes

    Valuing schooling outcomes means that students consider learning a new skill is worth pursuing because it is consistent with their identity and necessary for achieving an immediate or lifelong goal.
